well I bought the sled in 03 when I wanted to start racing.  I raced the sled the first year and absolutly loved it.  I took first place in the beginner class in the stock class and 600 class.  I got to know alot about the sled just by racing.  Now that I am out of racing due to the lack of snow the last 3 years.  Sucks.  ANyhow I havent been working on my sled all the time like i used too and have seemed to forgot a bunch of things.  I want to convert my sled into a lopng track like a 133" or whatever it is.  I will have to do that this summer though.  My problem now is that I want my sled to run good around here and I want the carbs to be jetted right along with the needle being on the right # and the air screw the right turn out.  I need to get my sled back in the garage and work on it.  I am in south dakota away from the hills and i dont know my elevation.  I just would like to know what jets i should be running with the hc on 91 octane with switch disconected.  THanks

Alright, First off, I have a couple questions for you.

 - Are you running Low Compression heads or High Comp? From your post I'm thinking your running on HC..

 - What kind of riding are you doing and do you normally run in a good amount of snow?

On my first 03 440, here was my setup:  I used the HC heads and threw in a 330 main jet and for me that worked out perfectly.  I didn't change the needle or position.  I do alot of blipping of the throttle when riding cuz we just ditch ride and jump alot so there is no long straits or high speeds.

I'm going to get TRUTH on here to help you out seeing as he has been running on 91 oct fuel as I am running on 110-114 on all of my rev's and don't have a ton of expierience with the LC stuff.

Thanks< Jay

ok i am running 91 octance with the HC domes.  I need to disconect the switch yet but I have zipped tied it to stay on 91.  I used to run 114 octane then i ran 114 with 91 mixed.  Now i run just 91 with the switch on 91.  I still mix oil 33:1. Use either amsoil or blue marble.  Always have.  I installed the 10.5 gal tank this winter.  Love it.  I hope you guys can steer me in the right direction as to what jets i need.  Everything is still stock.  clutch and everything.  I want to get the sx4 kit but cant quite justify it yet due to the ammount of snow we get.  i havent raced in 3 years and my sled only has 700 miles on it.  whats that tell ya.  Yeah maybe get to ride 2 to 5 times a year.  Oh, when I ride i usually ditch bang around here like you guys do.  I love to get air.  I also take my sled to the hills and ride it in about 2+ ft of powder.  Thats why i want to make it a long track.  The sled is an animal out in the hills.  Light enough to get yourself unstuck yet enought snort to keep ya going.  If you guys have any oh say sx4 kits or any clutching you want to send me to "try it out" for ya, let me know. LOL Thanks

I did some researching for you and this is what i found.

Needle - Middle clip
Main - 320
Air Screw - 1 turn out from lightly seated

Do some jetting runs at WOT for about 5 seconds and shut it down to do a plug check.  If the plugs are showing that the mixture is too rich, drop down to a 310 main and go from there.  You should be set with the 320, but depending on your elevation that can throw you off.  I'm a fan of running a hair rich just to be sure that the motor isn't going to let go on you.

I hope I did some good for you and this helps you get a good start at least.

Thanks, Jay

Hey Revrocket,
What # base gasket are you running? You should be using a #6 with HC heads and pump fuel, or you have a ticking time bomb on your hands...
Disconnect the octane switch (it is a simple unplug underneath your dash) and it will automatically set the ignition to the pump fuel curve, alot of the switches were wired backwards from the factory, so just unplug it.
Jetting, depending on temps and elevation, but assuming you are riding in 15-30 degrees, run a 320 main, 25 pilot and needle in the #3 position with a #6 base, hc heads and pump fuel..Tune from there. By the way I have a Goodwin Performance full clutch kit I'd sell ya..Post up if you need more help...Frank

ok well i dont know the base gasket but it is from the factory.  Whatever those are.  How much you want for the clutch setup and what all come with it??? I am new to clutching.  When I raced i did not have to touch my sled cause a buddy of mine raced pro-vet against like hibberts old man and his maechanic did all the work on my sled.  I t was nice but i did not learn much.  I did work onmy sled some though.  I will put 320's in for jets and let you know.  I just drove by the motocross track and there seems to be about 6 inches of snow on it.  I think i might go and try to fuck my sled up on it. lol.  might just put the race fuel in it for that then go to work on my sled.  Will post pics if i do though.  let me know about that clutch and maybe some black skis.  THanks guys

Hey RevRocket,
If it is the stock factory base, it will be a #3 and with hc heads, you are running too much comp to use pump fuel..I wouldn't do it!
For jetting, start out with 320's, for 90% of my riding, I run 320's. If you are running HC and race gas, your jets will be MUCH lower!! Like in the mid 2's.
On pump fuel and play riding, you might want to run larger pilots in the 35 range.
The clutch is a full kit with a black primary spring, blue secondary spring and helix....Compared to the stock clutching, there is no comparison! I would make you a special Fourwerx memeber deal:) $120 shipped..Here is a pic of it..Have fun out there!! I'm going to be riding by myself for the second week in a row...Totally sucks, but hey, atleast there is snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Frank

Sorry I had to bail on ya Frank.  I've been completely going insane all nite trying to get my quad ready and I got about another 3 hours worth of shit to do.

For the base gasket thing, I have heard of a few people who have said that they've used the complete stock setup run on the 91 octane setting and have run over 2000 miles without a problem, while others have had there motors let go at 300 miles.  Its all up to you on what you wanna do, but If you go with the #6 base on the 03 it should be like running LC heads.

You could always opt for LC heads too which retail for right around $230 at your local dealership.

RevRocket446: You can pick up a #6 Base Gasket at any local Ski-Doo dealership.  They may need to order it, but you can get it forsure.

Hope this helps, Jay

Jay-o,
wish I could have raced with ya!!! I am looking forward to next weekend..Hopefully we can ride some Yami's on saturday and rip up some drifts on sunday!!
Revrocket, the kit is a complete kit with a primary spring, helix and secondary spring. They don't make kits for different elevations, you just have to tune the kit to your riding..Frank.

Frank doesn't get on here that much, so if you'd like to contact him at home you can try him.  920-622-4742.  If he doesn't answer, leave him a message.
